Lake Mohave

Lake Mohave is the long, narrow reservoir on the Colorado River between the Hoover Dam and the Davis Dam, part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. It runs 67 miles from the Black Canyon in the north to Laughlin and Bullhead City in the south, with about 200 miles of shoreline: sheer canyon walls up top, wide open water and sandy Arizona-side beaches lower down, and very little crowd anywhere.

Because the water comes straight out of the bottom of Lake Mead it stays clear and cool all summer — the best swimming water in the region on a 110° day.

Overview

We run Lake Mohave trips from two marinas. From Cottonwood Cove, mid-lake, you are minutes from quiet coves and beaches in either direction, and it suits a 4-hour trip well. From Katherine Landing at the south end, trips run north past the Arizona beaches toward the narrows — allow 6 hours to make the most of it. Either way it's a cruise-and-beach day: find a cove, drop the anchor, swim, tube and lounge.
